Moving cities for work? Rent first, buy later

New city, new job, and a broker who insists that prices will only go up. It is tempting to buy fast. Most people who moved and bought in the first three months say they would do it differently.

Renting for a year shows you where your friends live, how long the commute really is during the monsoon and which areas feel like home. It also gives you time to understand local paperwork and pricing.

Use the year well. Visit two open houses a month, track prices for the three areas you like and save the difference between rent and a likely EMI. When you buy, you will buy with data.
